Exploring Principal Component Analysis with the Women Writers' Project

This visualization shows the plotting of 16th and 17th century texts by their first and second principal component. Users can toggle the different genres, centures, or authors to filter the data. Hovering over a point will bring up more information in a tooltip. Click the reset button to reset all toggled checkboxes (except for the Author Selection checkboxes).

Shape Field Selector

Use this field to select which parameter, genre or century, should be mapped to the shapes on the scatter plot.

Genre

Use this field to select or mute the different genres or centuries.

Author Selection

Use this field to select which authors you want to colored on the scatterplot. Select up to six authors, with the remaining authors being colored together as "Other", and click "Update Authors". Users can also clear all selections, and restore the selection to the original six authors who have the most texts in the dataset.
